Oregon Life United’s petition drive to stop publicly-funded abortion in the state of Oregon will officially begin on April 18. In order to qualify for the next statewide ballot we'll need to gather signatures from 117,578 registered Oregon voters.
This marks our fourth attempt at giving Oregonians a chance to vote on this critically important issue. In 2012 our volunteers gathered 72,000 signatures. In 2014 we gathered 98,000 signatures. In 2016 we were blocked from gathering signatures due to legal action taken against our petition's ballot title by Planned Parenthood and three other pro-abortion organizations.
Now, for the 2018 ballot, we have recently cleared all legal hurdles to begin gathering signatures. We've designated Tuesday, April 18 — Tax Day — as an appropriate beginning to the new petition drive and reminder that Oregon taxpayers are paying for nearly 3,500 abortions every year through the state-funded Oregon Health Plan. (Learn more about how abortions are funded in Oregon here.)
If you would like to see this measure on the next general election ballot we invite you to sign the petition and get involved. Hundreds of dedicated volunteers and financial supporters are needed for this petition drive to be successful.
